Sustainable solutions in a Changing World
EarthMore is a small family owned company with only one objective, to find economical ways to lower energy bills for homes and businesses. This can be in the form of ensuring your current home or business is properly air-sealed and insulated, exploring the option of a renewable energy system, or beginning the design and build process for your future “green” dream home. We are the experts who can offer most any service relating to energy efficiency.
Every home or business owner we work with will communicate directly with Zak Dowell, the company’s president. Avoid the frustrations so common to the contractor-client relationship and the big business and volume insulation company runarounds. Come to us for all of your home energy efficiency needs. Cutting energy costs is what we do; come to the experts and realize the difference.
Zak Dowell is currently a Ph.D. student and BioBuild Fellow in the Building Construction department at Virginia Tech, pursuing his doctorate in Environmental Design and Planning. He holds a Master of Science degree with dual concentrations in Building Science and Appropriate Technology. Along with his twenty-plus years of industry experience as a home builder, you can rest assured you and your home are in good hands.
He has been a Class A licensed home builder in the state of Virginia for over twenty years. He is the owner & operator of EarthMore LLC (formerly Sustainable Home Energy Solutions), where customers are provided a number of services that relate to energy efficiency. These services include everything from custom home design and build, renewable energy consultation, and diagnosing and treating chronic home issues.
Zak began teaching renewable energy and building science related workforce training classes for the VA Community College System in 2010. These classes prepared students to sit for the NABCEP Solar, LEED Green Associate, and Building Performance Institute Exams. Prior to that, he served as a building science adjunct instructor at Appalachian State University where he attended graduate school. In the last few years, he has provided training and/or consulting services for Honeywell Corporation, VA Farm Bureau, VA Tech Agricultural Extension, Malloy College, VA Dept. of Housing and Urban Development, and the VA Society of Home Inspectors.
Above all, his real passion lies in non-profit work that involves researching synergies between solar and biogas technologies.
Remember, when you hire a contractor or home energy assessor, education and experience are essential. You will be in good hands if you give us the opportunity to assess the ways to cut your energy bills and make your home or home-to-be a more comfortable place for you and your family.
